What is Ayurvastra?
Ayurvastra is a branch of Ayurveda, the traditional system used 5000 years ago. The term Ayurvastra is used in Sanskrit as the name Ayurvastra is derived from two words – Ayur (Health) and Vastra (Fabrics). Thus, Ayurvastra means Healthy Fabrics. By giving medicinal value to the fabric, this clothing is commonly known as Ayurvastra.
How Ayurvastra fabrics are dyed naturally?
In Ayurveda, Parts of the plant will be used for the treatment. Dyeing the fabric by herbal method is an additional medicinal value for the fabric, as the fabric can be used for the treatment of many diseases. By the process of dyeing with herbal extracts it is non-toxic and eco-friendly process and can be decompose easily without polluting the environment. People in many parts of India were using various types of natural dyeing in which they repeatedly dipped cloths in an herb-based preparation after each wash. These natural dyes are free from toxins. The preparation process of Ayurvastra takes time as the dyes were prepared naturally and they decompose easily while comparing synthetic dyes, it takes years to decompose and it pollutes the environment and cause major diseases which affect the health.

The herbs do not pollute the environment through contamination of water
resources in areas close to processing units. Moreover, the solid residue left
after dyeing can also be used for the purpose of recycling, where solid and
liquid waste is separated through the process of filtration and used for
farming purposes as manure and watering the fields. Herbal clothes are
non-toxic, eco-friendly, sustainable and biodegradable. This old age process is
good for the human being and they provide environmentally friendly way of
living, and sustaining the world with good atmosphere for the forthcoming
generations.
Does people aware about natural dyed fabrics?
The need for natural dyed cloths is
increasing day by day as people are aware about the natural process. Now a days
the herbal treated fabric is made into sarees, yoga mats, bed sheets, dresses
and everyday clothing as these have found use not only to cure but also to
prevent diseases being capable of restricting the growth of bacteria.
There is an increasing demand for herbal textile within our country. But this industry needs strong support from Government to manufacture wide range of handloom products from regular cloth like manmade cloths and dye.
Do they export the products?
The Handloom Weavers’ Development Society in India is helping the weavers for producing a wide range of herbal fabrics including sarees, yoga mats, bed sheets and dress materials using medicinal dyes, and exporting them to the USA, Italy, Germany, UK, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. National government ministries and state governments within India have to see herbal clothing as a way to healthy life and increase the market for their handloom industries and to produce eco-friendly handloom fabrics.

Does Ayurvastra cure any disease?
Ayurvastra fabrics are soft as they are made from natural plants fibers and dyed naturally, and so they are breathable fabrics. Each fabric is dyed with specific herbs to cure allergies. It helps to treat various diseases like skin infections such as eczema and psoriasis. The fabric also helps in curing of various diseases like rheumatism, arthritis, blood pressure, diabetes. Respiratory problems like asthma, sleeping disorders. It helps in boosting immunity. These fabrics are also used to prevent diseases. The Anti-bacterial and Anti-inflammatory properties of Ayurvastra are made using neem, turmeric finished, as they are cultivated naturally and dyed naturally. It can also relieve general body pains and strengthen the immune system, blood purification and cooling. The effective time to wear Ayurvastra is when the body is at rest. Which means while sleeping or while meditation, the body will be in a relaxed stage and the body is healed naturally. The available Ayurvastra fabrics are bed sheets, pillow cover, bed coverings, yoga mat, towels, undergarments, sleep wear etc.,

curing many health issues, without any pollution to the environment they can
always be considered as one of the sustainable products in the textile
industry. People in India are less aware about Ayurvastra, but the awareness is
increasing day by day due to the green consumers.
